How To Type Multiple Lines In Single Cell In Microsoft Office Excel

Yesterday my father was working on Microsoft Excel to make balance sheet and some of the name in it was too big to put it in single line and also when he tries to print that sheet, last column was going out of print preview just because of those big names. So to solve it he wrote half name in second cell in that column.

When I show this I asked him to put it in same cell but in second line but the how to do this is not known by many people, it is known by very less people and everyone wants to know how people write in two lines within single cell. You can use it to write address, long names, etc.

If you are using Microsoft Office Excel 2003 then follow these steps:

  1. Select the cell which you want to type in multiple lines
  2. Then click on Format from menu bar and select Cells
  3. Select Alignment tab
  4. Under Text Control, click on Wrap Text
  5. Then click on OK button

Now type the first line then press Alt + Enter from your keyboard to move to the next line in same cell and it will take you to the next line and you can continue typing in next line.

For Microsoft Office 2007 or above, select the cell in which you want to type, type the first line then press Alt + Enter to move to the next line in same cell and it will take you the next line and you start typing your next line. You can use it as many times you want in a cell.
