All About Google’s 2-Step Verification

Today in this post I will try to answer your all Questions related to Google’s new feature 2-Step Verification. Yesterday I told you how you can setup Google 2-step verification on your Google Account now let me answer some of questions you may want to ask. If your Question or Answer you are looking for is not given here do comments below I will try my best to answer them.

Q.1) How long will it take to get verification code on my mobile phone?
A.1) If you chose to receive codes by text message, make sure your service plan and mobile device supports text message delivery.  Delivery speed and availability may vary by location and service provider. If text message delivery is slow, try using the phone call option. If you have a smartphone, you can use the Google Authenticator app.

Q.2) If I don’t have access to my primary phone, how can I access my account?
A.2) If you don’t have access to your primary phone you can use your backup phone or backup code to access your account.

Q.3) How many times I can use each backup code?
A.3) you can use each backup code (out of 10)only one time, once you used any of them that code will get expire.

Q.4) Link to set up 2-step verification not showing
A.4) If you can’t see the link called Using 2-step verification in your Google Account page then go to http://www.google.com/accounts/SmsAuthConfig to setup 2-setp verification.

Q.5) If I lost the backup codes, is it possible to get it back?
A.5) yes it is possible to get it back, by going to Google Accounts –> Using 2-step verification –> click on Show codes

Q.6) I have used my all backup code, now what to do, how can I get new one?
A.6) After you have used all your backup code go to Google Accounts –> Using 2-step verification –> click on Show codes there you will see button called Generate new codes click on it, now you will get 10 new codes

Q.7) I have more than one Google Account, can I use my same phone number to setup in all accounts?
A.7) Yes, you can setup as many account you want but for every account you need to setup individually and every account going to have its own different backup codes.

Q.8) I am having problem in downloading Google Authenticator on my BlackBerry device
A.8) Make sure your BlackBerry device is configured for US English — you might not be able to download Google Authenticator if your device is operating in another language.

Q.9) After I setup Google’s 2-step verification my mobile applications and desktop application stopped working
A.9) When you turn on 2-step verification, any applications that need access to your Google Account will stop working until you enter an application-specific password in place of your normal password.

Q.10) Which applications and devices need to entire application-specific password?
A.10) Here is the list of some applications and devices that need application-specific password

  • POP and IMAP email clients such as Outlook, Mail and Thunderbird
  • Gmail and Google Calendar on smartphones
  • ActiveSync for Windows Mobile and iPhone
  • YouTube Mobile
  • Installed chat clients such as Google Talk and Adium
  • Picasa, 3D Warehouse, Sketchup, and installed applications
  • AdWords Editor

Q.11) My Android device hasn’t prompted for application-specific password
A.11) Android devices can take up to 30 minutes after you turn on 2-step verification before prompting you for an application-specific password.

Q.12) Application-specific passwords not working
A.12) If you tried using an application-specific password on a non-browser device or application, it is possible that the device or application cannot handle 2-step verification. For example, some plug-ins or applications that use the Google API might not work. Please check the resources made available by the device or application for instructions.

Q.13) Do I need to give the verification code every time I login to my account from same computer?
A.13) After login to your account, when you will type the verification code you will see an option called Remember verification for this computer for 30 days. Select that option then submit the verification code then won’t ask you to give the verification code for next 30 days no matter how much time you login-logout to your account from that same computer.

Q.14) Someone have access to my backup codes so how to get new backup codes?
A.14) You can get new backup code by going to Google Accounts –> Using 2-step verification –> click on Show codes there you will see button called Generate new codes click on it, now you will get 10 new codes and your old backup code will get deleted.

Q.15) How can I change my phone number in 2-step verification?
A.15) You need to first clear your old settings by going to Google Accounts –> Using 2-step verification –> click on Clear settings then again setup 2-step verification with your new phone number

Q.16) How can I turn off 2-step verification on my Google Account
A.16) You can turnoff 2-step verification, by going to Google Accounts –> Using 2-step verification –> click on Turn off 2-step verification…

How To Sign In And Verify 2-Step Verification Without Your Primary Mobile Phone Number

Today in this post I will tell you how you can you can sign in and verify 2-step verification using your backup mobile phone, backup code and without any of them. In case you have lost your mobile phone and you want turn 2-step verification off but for that you need to sign in to make it turn off so let see how you can do

2-step verification

Sign in using Backup mobile number

  1. Go to Google
  2. Login to your account
  3. Now click on Other ways to get a verification code »
  4. Google 2-step verification - Other ways to get a verification code »

  5. Select Send to your backup phone number ending in
  6. Then click on Ok button
  7. Google 2-step verification - Send to your backup phone number ending in

  8. Now you will receive a verification code in your backup mobile phone
  9. Now type the verification code you just received in your backup mobile phone
  10. Click on Verify button

Now you can turn off 2-step verification or you can use your account as you want to use

Sign in using backup code

  1. Go to Google
  2. Login to your account
  3. Type your backup code in the box where they have asked you to Enter code:
  4. Click on Verify button

Now you can turn off 2-step verification or you can use your account as you want to use

Sign in without your primary phone, backup phone and backup code

  1. Go to Google
  2. Login to your account
  3. Now click on Other ways to get a verification code »
  4. Google 2-step verification - Other ways to get a verification code »

  5. Select I no longer have access to any of these
  6. Then click on Ok button
  7. Google 2-step verification -  I no longer have access to any of these

  8. Now they will ask you to fill a form
  9. Try to fill that form correctly
  10. After you submitting that form wait for their response

How To Turn Off And Turn On Google’s 2-Step Verification

Today in this post I will tell you how you can turn-off Google’s 2-step verification. Why you want to turn it off? There can be some reason like you lost your mobile phone so for a while you want to turn it off or you are going somewhere where you think that you won’t be able to receive any SMS or calls in your mobile phone or you don’t have your personal mobile phone and can be more possible reasons.

Turn Off And Turn On 2-Step Verification

So let see how you can turn 2-step verification off

  1. Go to Google Accounts page
  2. Click on Using 2-step verification
  3. Then click Turn off 2-step verification…
  4. They will ask you to conform it Click on OK button

If you again want to turn it on

  1. Go to Google Accounts page
  2. Click on Using 2-step verification
  3. Then click Turn on 2-step verification…
  4. They will ask you to conform it Click on OK button

And I you want to permanently turn 2-step verification off

  1. Go to Google Accounts page
  2. Click on Using 2-step verification
  3. At the bottom you will see Advanced –> Clear the phone info and printable codes
  4. There click on Clear settings
  5. A popup will appear  to conform click on Ok button

How To Setup Google’s 2-Step Verification For Your Google Account

Today in this post I will tell you how you can setup 2-step verification for your Google Account. Google recently introduced a new feature called 2-step verification by which you can make your Google Account more safe and secure. By using 2-step verification when you will login to your account you don’t only need your username and password to login, you also need your mobile phone. It means if someone somehow find out what is the password of your Google Account but to access your account he/she still need your mobile phone to login. And if someone tried to login you will get to know instantly.

Let see how you can setup 2-step verification

Note: – During the process read everything carefully in this page and in Google website also, if you got any problem leave the comment below in this page

  1. Go to Google.com/accounts
  2. Click on Using 2-step verification(under Personal Settings –> Security)

  4. Now Google may ask you to type your password again for security reasons
  5. Click on Set up 2-step verification button
  6. Google 2-step verification - Set up 2-step verification button

  7. Select your mobile phone
  8. Click on Next » button
  9. Google 2-step verification - Select a phone

  10. Now select your country and give your phone number
  11. Now select whether you want to receive verification code by text SMS or Voice call
  12. Now click on Send code button
  13. Within few seconds or minutes you will receive a verification code on your given phone number (the phone number you have given in step 7)
  14. Type that verification code in Code: box
  15. After you type the verification code click on Verify button
  16. After it get verify click on Next » button

  20. Now you will get some more code (keep these code very safely and you can get it when you want even without your mobile phone or emails access)
  21. Now after you save that codes with you select Yes, I have a copy of my backup verification codes.

  24. For backup, if you lost your mobile or something like that and you don’t have those backup cdes also so you can use other mobile to verify
  25. For you can to follow same step that you followed for your 1st mobile number verification (so go through setup 7 till step 13 then again come back here)

  31. A popup will appear confirming that now You will be signed out of your Google Account on all devices, including mobile applications.

  35. As you sign in you will receive a SMS on your mobile phone (which you have give for verify in step 7)
  36. After signing in you will be asked to type verification code (that you have just received after signing in)

  38. Then click Verify button

Now you can start using your account. And you will be asked to very every time you access to this Google Account with a new device.

Today in this post I will tell you how you can use Google labs SMS Channel to send about your new blog post via SMS to your reader. Google labs SMS Channel allows you to send free SMS anywhere in India. It can also help your readers know that your blog is updated so they can check your blog when they will receive SMS on their mobile phone.

Here how you can setup

  1. Go to labs.google.co.in/smschannels
  2. Give your name and mobile number  to verify
  3. After you give your name and mobile number you will receive a code in a SMS on your mobile phone
  4. Type that code and click on Finish setup button
  5. Verify Mobile Number

  6. Now click on Try now » link (at right middle-side of the page under Create your own channel)
  7. Create your own channel

  8. Now fill the form according to you (you can see in below image what I have given)
  9. Click on Create channel button
  10. Create new SMS Channel form

  11. Now click on Subscription link for this channel: to get the link of your channel
  12. New SMS Channel ready

Now your channel is ready share link with your readers to subscribe for updates via SMS.

Note: – You can’t change the name (while creating channel) once you choose it.

All About Mobile Number Portability (MNP) In India

Today in this post I will talk about Mobile Number Portability (MNP). Mobile Number Portability is the most awaited in all over India and is finally launched on 20th January 2011. Haryana is the first state to try it this out, in Haryana it was launched on 27th November 2010 for testing purpose and more than 80,000 people have changed their mobile network operator using MNP. Now let me tell you what and how of Mobile number portability (MNP)

Let me tell you first how you can change your operator, here how you can

  1. Send a SMS “PORT <Your Mobile Number>  to 1900
    Massage Body: PORT 9812345678
    Send to: 1900
  2. Now you will receive a SMS from 1901 with a Unique Porting Code with an expiry date and time after which that code will not work if you didn’t port your number before that date
  3. Now go to the nearest  Official store of the respective mobile operator you want and collect a form for mobile portability
  4. Now fill that form and also in that form you need to give the Unique Porting Code (UPC) which you got while sending an SMS to 1900
  5. Then submit that form to that operator from where you have collected it
  6. And within seven days your number will get port to new operator

Q.1) What is Mobile number portability (MNP)?
A.1) Mobile Number Portability or MNP let you continue with your current mobile telephone numbers when you are changing from one mobile network operator to another.

Q.2) If I didn’t port my number before the expiry date of Unique Porting Code, will I not able to port anymore?
A.2) In general UPC expires after 15 days from the day you sent the SMS to 1900. And Yes, you will able to port even after UPC get expire but you have to resend the same SMS and you will get a new Unique Porting Code (UPC) which you can use it to apply.

Q.3) Will I able to transfer my current prepaid balance to new operator?
A.3) No, you will not able to transfer your current prepaid balance to new operator.

Q.4) In the process my mobile number will get disconnect?
A.4) Yes in the seven days process your mobile number will get disconnect for two hours, in the night between 11 PM to 5 AM (IST).

Q.5) Will I get charge for porting my number?
A.5) Yes, you will be changed of Rs.19 for porting your number by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), which you need to pay to your new operator.

Q.6) How many time I will able to change my operator?
A.6) As for now there is no limit, you can port your number as much time as you want. But you need to complete 90 days with the new operator after porting.

Q.7) I am currently using my number in West Bengal and want to port it to Delhi, will I able to do that?
A.7) No, you will not able to port your number from one state to another, you need to port within the circle (state).

Q.8) How old my number should be to port it to new operator?
A.8) Your number should be 90 days old before you can apply for porting.

Q.9) Only prepaid or only postpaid subscribers will able to take advantage of MNP?
A.9) Both prepaid and postpaid subscriber can take advantage of MNP.

Q.10) Will I able to take advantage of MNP without carry forwarding my dues of existing operator?
A.10) No, there should be no dues before you port your number to new operator.

Q.11) What are documents I need to carry when I go to apply for MNP?
A.11) You need to carry Proof Of Identity (POI) and Proof Of Address (POA)

Q.12) Will able to shift from CDMA to GSM or GSM to CDMA on MNP?
A.12) Yes you can shift from CDMA to GSM or GSM to CDMA in MNP, just you should have supported mobile for that.

Q.13) Will I able to cancel my MNP request?
A.13) Yes, you can cancel your MNP request within 24 hours from the time you requested for MNP, with a written application.

Q.14) Will I get refund of Rs. 19 porting after I cancel MNP request?
A.14) No, you will not get your refund of Rs. 19 after once you made the request for MNP by submitting the form.

Q.15) Can in use MNP for my landline phone?
A.15)  As MNP is Mobile Number Portability so it is only for mobile not for landline or any other, so answer is No.

Q.16) Will I get a new SIM card from new operator?
A.16) yes, you will get a new SIM from new operator before your number gets ported.

Q.17) Do I have to return my old SIM card?
A.17) No, in any case you don’t need to return your old SIM card.

Q.18) If I have Vodafone number register on my name and I want to transfer it to other person’s name during the process of MNP, is it possible to do?
A.18) No, you can’t transfer the number to the other person’s name during the process of MNP.

Q.19) How will I get to know, now I have to change my old SIM card with the new one or how will I get to know my number is ported to new operator?
A.19) You will get an SMS with the date and time of porting so according to that you can change your SIM card.

For testing purpose I sent an SMS to 1900 and afterwards I got a call from my operator regarding why I want to port my number. So you have a chance to demand what you want from your mobile network operator.  :p
